What Does a Branding Agency Actually Do?

April 5, 20261 Minutes

Most companies approach branding too late. They already have visuals, materials, and presence. But something feels off. That “something” is alignment.

It Starts Before Design

A branding agency doesn’t start with visuals. It starts with questions:

What are you really offering?
Who is it for?
Why should anyone care?

Without answers, design is decoration.

Defining Position

Branding is positioning. It decides: what you stand for, what you don’t, where you compete. This is the most difficult part—and the most valuable.

Building the System

After strategy comes design. But not as isolated outputs: not just a logo, not just a website. Instead: a connected system, rules and logic, consistency across everything.

Making It Work in Reality

A brand must live in: presentations, ads, social media, physical space, If it only works in a PDF, it’s not finished.

Maintaining Direction

Branding is not a one-time event. It evolves: with the company, with the market, with time. A good branding agency builds something that can evolve without breaking.

A branding agency doesn’t just design.
It defines.

Good design is for good clients

Good design and good clients arrive together — one rarely exists without the other. After two decades and 128 projects in Ljubljana, we've stopped pretending otherwise. The work only reaches its potential when the relationship is built on honesty, mutual respect, and a shared willingness to sit with the hard decisions.

Ljubljana to do

Ljubljana to-do lists are usually the same – the castle, the market, Plečnik. We have been designing in this city since 2004 and we see it differently: through the facades, the typography on the windows, the details that the tourist guide doesn't mention. This guide is Ljubljana to-do for those who observe.

How Much Does Branding Cost?

Branding cost is the question every client asks first, and it's almost always the wrong place to start. We've worked through 128 projects since 2004, and the budget conversation only makes sense after we understand what the brand actually needs to do. Branding cost without that context is just a number with nothing holding it up.

AI-Generated content should be in the public domain

AI generated content should be in the public domain — and we think most of the debate around this misses the point entirely. The question of AI content copyright ownership isn't just for lawyers; it shapes how designers, studios, and clients think about authorship. We've been watching this closely, and our position is clear: if no human author can be identified, the work belongs to everyone.

How to use AI without losing your soul

How to use AI without losing your soul is the wrong question only if you've already handed your thinking over. We haven't. After two decades of building identities from first principles, we treat AI the same way we treat every other tool that arrived promising to replace us — useful precisely where it stops pretending to think, and dangerous the moment we let it. How to use AI without losing your soul starts with knowing what your soul actually contributes.

Why Making by Hand Still Matters in the Age of AI

Making by hand isn't a romantic habit we've held onto — it's the part of our process where the actual decisions happen. Before any screen gets involved, we draw, we cut, we test with our fingers. That physical resistance is where making by hand produces something AI can't replicate: a choice made under uncertainty, not optimised from existing data.

Every Comment Can Be Positive – How to Give Constructive Feedback to Designers

Constructive feedback for designers is one of the most underestimated skills in any creative collaboration. Get it wrong and you stall the work; get it right and the next version is better than anything you would have briefed. We've been on the receiving end of both kinds — and after 81 logos and 128 projects, we've learned to tell the difference.

Red Dot

Two Red Dots. Two completely different projects. One thing in common — the fingerprints of people who refused to settle. What does an award actually prove?

Definition of a brand

Definition of a brand is where most projects quietly fail — not in execution, but in understanding. A brand is not a logo, not a palette, not a tagline. It is the gap between what a company says it…

We use craft in every project. Not as decoration. Not as nostalgia. As a way of thinking.

Craft in design thinking is how we structure every decision we make — not what it looks like at the end, but how the problem gets interrogated from the start. We've been working this way since 2004.…
