How do you transform a mining town’s symbol of industrial hardship into a celebration of creative emergence?
Festival brand identity design Ljubljana required transforming industrial hardship into creative celebration. We developed Domfrca’s complete festival brand identity design Ljubljana by reconstructing mining fragments into a modular system that honors heritage while building creative futures.
Client: Domfrca Festival
The contradiction
Domfrca was the train that pulled exhausted miners from underground shafts—a symbol we needed to transform into creative celebration without erasing its difficult history. We approached this by literally deconstructing and rebuilding the industrial elements rather than avoiding them.
Controlled deconstruction
We rebuilt the train from scrap metal parts, creating a modular visual language where fragments reassemble like memory itself. Metal textures become typography, industrial forms become festival graphics, and the machinery of labor becomes the machinery of art.
Outcome
The festival gained a powerful identity rooted in authentic local history, with the scrap-built aesthetic becoming a symbol of transformation from industrial hardship to creative emergence.
Brand identity · Logo system · Typography · Visual language · Festival materials
Industrial fragments rebuilt into creative celebration without historical erasure.
The Why behind Domfrca starts with a contradiction: how do you celebrate creativity using the symbol that pulled exhausted miners from underground? We could have avoided the train entirely, but that felt dishonest. The What became a complete festival identity that literally deconstructs and rebuilds the mining train from scrap metal parts. The How: controlled deconstruction of industrial elements into a modular system. We took the hardest parts of the heritage and made them the foundation, not something to hide behind softer imagery.
The Values are reconstruction over avoidance, fragments over wholeness. The Design treats each piece of the deconstructed train as a building block that can form new configurations while keeping its industrial weight and texture. This is not nostalgia design—the metal stays sharp, the forms stay heavy. The Story becomes about creative emergence from industrial decay, where the festival grows from the same materials that once served a harder purpose. The identity works because it acknowledges what came before while building something genuinely different from those same pieces.
