How do you ground Slovenia’s AI future in computing’s material past?

AI organization identity design challenged us to ground Slovenia’s artificial intelligence future in computing’s material past. Our AI organization identity design for SloAi transforms technical constraints into visual strengths through halftone patterns.

Client: SloAi

Strategy

The brief demanded capturing AI’s evolution while honoring computing history. We studied early image recognition systems—high confidence at edges, uncertainty in transitions—and saw our visual metaphor for AI’s current state.

Execution

We built letterforms using dithering patterns that create texture through structured pixels. The logo renders sharp on screens, soft in print, with colors that balance blue’s trust against purple’s forward energy.

Outcome

Technical constraints became aesthetic strengths. The identity anchors Slovenia’s AI organization in computing’s physical origins rather than pretending pixels don’t exist.

AI identity that behaves like actual AI — probabilistic, not fixed.

The Why behind SloAI started with a question: how do you make AI feel material when everyone else makes it feel ethereal? The What became an identity system built on dithering patterns — the same technique early computers used when they couldn’t render smooth gradients. The How was studying those first image recognition systems, where algorithms showed high confidence at edges but uncertainty in transitions. That became our visual metaphor for AI’s current state. The Values reject the typical AI aesthetic of smooth gradients and perfect curves. Instead, we chose structured pixels and honest limitations.

The Design creates letterforms that shift between contexts — sharp on screens, soft in print, never exactly the same twice. Blue grounds the identity in trust while purple pushes toward future possibilities. The Story is computing’s material past informing Slovenia’s digital future, where technical constraints become visual strengths rather than problems to hide. This identity doesn’t pretend AI is magic. It shows AI as what it actually is: pattern recognition with beautiful, visible seams.

Definition of a brand

Definition of a brand is where most projects quietly fail — not in execution, but in understanding. A brand is not a logo, not a palette, not a tagline. It is the gap between what a company says it…

We use craft in every project. Not as decoration. Not as nostalgia. As a way of thinking.

Craft in design thinking is how we structure every decision we make — not what it looks like at the end, but how the problem gets interrogated from the start. We've been working this way since 2004.…
